As I’m sure you have all heard by now, Fiesta 2012: Taste of Jaltemba/Sabor a Jaltemba was a rousing success - both from a party and a financial point of view.
The crowd peaked at more than 500 people and it certainly looked like they were all having a good time.
No "Taste" Event would be possible without food, so Los Amigos would like to thank
the following restaurants who served up a variety of great dishes: El Pollito, Vista Guayabitos, El Rodeo, Rocky's, Avila Panderia, La Casita de Irma and Marios Tortas.
We would particularly like to thank Vista Guayabitos for deciding to return all of the proceeds they raised at the event back to Los Amigos.
We certainly had a full entertainment schedule. The Perez Brothers and Mimi got everyone up dancing. The Estudio de Danza Adriana Gauna gave us a demonstration of flamenco and belly dancing and the Conalep Folkloric Dancers also put on a show. The crowd was also entertained by the music of Country Style, Adan Lopez and Manuel and Friends. And just when the energy level was beginning to sag, the Telpochcalli Youth Group brought it right back up with an enthusiastic dance and musical performance; Telpochcalli is the newest committee of Los Amigos. Special thanks need to go out to John Flammang who ran the sound for the day. All of these entertainers donated their time and talents free of charge and, in fact, Adan Lopez donated the proceeds of his CD sales back to Los Amigos. Later in the evening, Los Chakas served up Norteño music to those patrons with enough stamina to keep going until late in the night.
Los Amigos Co-Presidents Ken Snyder and Zobeida Barrera took advantage of the occasion to present an award to Pancho Zuñiga, President of Ejido La Peñita de Jaltemba, for all the help he has given them in acquiring land to locate the 4 kindergartens they have constructed.
Although we are still working through the bills, it looks like the event will raise more than $100,000 pesos. A full accounting will be posted on our website once everything is finalized. These monies will go towards Los Amigos various programs: plastics recycling, scholarships for needy students, building and maintenance projects at local schools, the proposed teachers resource centre and the after-school programs organized by Telpochcalli.
We had a number of businesses and individuals who stepped forward to sponsor Fiesta 2012. Their financial support ensured that the funds raised at the event can go directly into our programs. We want to salute the following sponsors:
DIAMOND SPONSORS ($5,000 pesos)
GOLD SPONSORS ($2,000 pesos)
SILVER SPONSORS ($1,000 pesos)
In addition, there were a number of other businesses who provided support, doing everything from providing supplies and services at a reduced rate to donating plants for decoration to serving as ticket
outlets. We would like to recognize the contributions of: Viveros Villanueva, La Bodega Wine and Spirits, Hamaca Maya, Hidden
Paradise Real Estate, Matejas, Los Compadres, Latitude 21, El Panorama and Wash and Wear and Tecate.
And, of course, we would like to thank the media outlets who helped promote not only this event, but the activities of Los Amigos in general: Jaltemba Jalapeno, Jaltemba Bay Life, Jaltemba Sol, Magical Los
Ayala, the Serape, the Vallarta Tribune, the Banderas Bay News, RivieraNayaritFun, PV Angels and Vallarta Lifestyles.
Events like this would not, obviously, be possible without a small army of volunteers. We would like to acknowledge the work of our organizing committee: Johan Nielsen, Ken Snyder, Helma Stewart, Maxine Zurbrigg, Allyson Williams, Nora Dixon, Robi Smallwood, Deb Peckham, Eddie Dominguez and Dave Easby. Special thanks to Rodger Murphy who organized the bar.
There were many others who helped out the day of the event: Peter Martin, Bob Tripp, Carol Wallace, Carol Timlock, Sheila Soenen, Dan Smallwood, Marion and Jeff Rogers, Val Egan, Nora Dixon, Susan Richardson, Anne Easby, Ian and Sydney Richardson, Bob and Penny Richards, Linda Wolfe and John Eckstrom, Guillermina Duenos, Ralph Reichert, Mimi Beaupre, Gema Marquez, Jeff and Holly Trujillo, Joyce Vanderstaak, Allyson Williams, Mac and Maxine Stewart, John Zurbrigg, Mike Frailey, Bob Gebhard, Sergio Vega, Alicia, Alma, Saul Bernal, Billim, Roberto, Wayne and Yvonne Brewster, Carlos Flores, Eva Flores, Gerry Webb, Russ Wilker and Glenn Amor. With apologies to any we may have missed - you know who you are.
We would also like to acknowledge the support of the Citizens Action Committee
of La Peñita and the Municipal Delegation, who served as co-sponsors for the event. They smoothed the way with local and state government to acquire all permits, organize the beer
and tables and so much more. Balta, Rafa, Antonio and Lidia and your whole team; thank you.
And most importantly of all, we would like to thank everyone who came out to the event, or contributed to Los Amigos in some other way - by buying a t-shirt at our booth at the tianguis or by making a direct donation through one of our members or via PayPal through the Los Amigos website. It is only through your contributions that Los Amigos is able to achieve its goal of undertaking programs and services designed to improve the lives of area residents.
